9. Special Examination Methods in General Recruitment

Special examination methods for "Common Selection" and "Part-time/Correspondence Split Selection"

Who Can Apply

In principle, special examination methods can be applied for by those who have immigrated from overseas within 6 years (as of February 1, 2026).

Applications can be made at all public high schools conducting general recruitment.

Document Submission

Submit the "Application Form for Examination Methods for Applicants with Guardians Who Are Immigrants from Overseas" (Form No. 5) to the high school you are applying to before submitting your application.

Separate applications are required for both Common Selection and Part-time/Correspondence Split Selection.

Submit Through Junior High School

Since application forms are submitted through your junior high school, please consult with your homeroom teacher early.

If you are not enrolled in a junior high school, please contact the high school you wish to apply to early.

Special Examination Methods You Can Apply For (Examples)

Adding ruby text (furigana readings) to kanji in academic test questions.
Extension of academic test time (up to 1.5 times longer).
Speaking slowly with easy-to-understand words during special tests (interviews).

Not Allowed

The presence of interpreters or bringing dictionaries is not permitted.

Important Notice

For the Special Recruitment for Foreign Residents in Kanagawa and Special Recruitment for Returnees from Overseas, the above special examination methods cannot be applied for.

If you need special consideration during the examination, please consult with the Prefectural Board of Education.
